Visit Preveli and Rethymnon
Starting from the South of Crete, we will drive towards Agia Galini and continue trhough the mountainous central Crete for Spili where we will stop for a coffee. It is said that Spili got its name (spili – Spilia means cave in Greek ) after the several caves in the area and especially the cave located in the northwestern part of the village, called Peristere. According to local traditions in one of the caves in the area a miraculous image of Virgin Mary was discovered , painted on a rock, which unfortunately did not not survive down to the present. The village is known by that name since the Venetian Era, when it was separated into two settlements, Panochori and Perachori.
In the center of the village, at the square you will see two huge plane trees, and of course the central fountain – Kefalovrisi (i.e. prime spring) as it is called. This is a series of 25 fountains in the form of a lion head Around Kefalovrisi central square you‘ll find several tavernas with genuine Cretan cuisine, coffee shops and folk art shops.
We will then continue for our next stop at Kourtaliotiko gorge which is one of the most impressive gorges of Rethymno prefecture , with its unique natural beauty and several small waterfalls. A stop for pictures is a must . Later we will continue towards the monastery of Preveli for our guided tour .
We will continue our drive towards Rethymnon, where we will have a guided walking tour of the city and free time. According to the program and your needs and wishes this tour can be a tour transfer – ending at Rethymnon ( or perhaps continuing at Chania for the drop off at the desired accommodation) or we can return back in the south ( to drop you of at the starting point)
